PROJECT SYNOPSIS ▾


ONE BEGETS TWO, TWO BEGETS THREE, THREE BEGETS ALL THINGS.

BY MINIMIZING FORMAL VARIATION, A SINGLE UNIT EVOLVES INTO AN ENTIRE WORLD. THE CHAOS PROGRAMME HAS DESIGNED AND COMPLETED THE NEW M ESSENTIAL SPACE AT MIXC TIANJIN....



UNIT

THE PROJECT BEGAN WITH THE COMBINATION OF A BASIC UNIT. THE POWER OF THE UNIT OFTEN LIES IN REPETITION, WHILE THE UNIT ITSELF DEMANDS CLARITY AND SIMPLICITY—A TALL, SOLID SQUARE BOX BECAME THE FUNDAMENTAL FORM, WITH BLACK PINE WOOD AS THE PRIMARY MATERIAL. THE WOOD GRAIN TEXTURE LENDS AN ABSTRACT FORM A TANGIBLE, MICRO-LEVEL TACTILITY. SACHO GREEN FABRIC IS INTRODUCED AS AN ACCENT MATERIAL, WITH SUBTLE FLORAL PATTERNS LIGHTLY TRACED ACROSS ITS FINE SURFACE, APPEARING AND DISAPPEARING WITH SHIFTING LIGHT.

THE APPLICATION OF THE FABRIC RELATES TO ITS FUNCTION: WHEN THE UNIT SERVES AS A DISPLAY WINDOW, THE FABRIC FULLY COVERS THE BACKGROUND, CREATING AN ABSOLUTELY LUXURIOUS BACKDROP; WHEN USED FOR DISPLAY, SHELVES DIVIDE THE INTERIOR INTO UPPER AND LOWER SECTIONS, WITH THE FABRIC EITHER APPEARING HORIZONTALLY ACROSS THE TOP OR VERTICALLY SPANNING BOTH PARTS—THESE SUBTLE VARIATIONS IN ORIENTATION DELICATELY ALTER THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN UPPER AND LOWER.

COMBINATION

TEN UNITS ARE PLACED SYMMETRICALLY IN PAIRS WITHIN THE ELONGATED SITE, AND SPACE TRULY BEGINS TO TAKE SHAPE. THE COMBINATION OF UNITS SHAPES THE SPACE IN TWO WAYS: ORIENTATION AND SCALE.

A SLIGHT ROTATION GIVES THE UNITS EITHER INWARD- OR OUTWARD-FACING ORIENTATIONS. THE TWO DISPLAY UNITS AT THE ENTRANCE TURN INWARD, WELCOMING VISITORS INSIDE; FOUR INWARD-FACING UNITS ENCLOSE THE FRONT HALL, FORMING THE MAIN RETAIL AREA; THE SECOND SPACE EMERGES IN THE GAPS BETWEEN FOUR OUTWARD-FACING UNITS, SERVING AS THE CASHIER AND ACCESSORY DISPLAY AREA; THE THIRD SPACE, ACTING AS THE VIP ROOM, IS SIMILARLY ENCLOSED BY FOUR INWARD-FACING UNITS, THOUGH MORE INTIMATE IN SCALE THAN THE MAIN RETAIL AREA; THE FOURTH SPACE IS CONCEALED BEHIND TWO UNITS, FORMING THE DEEPEST FOCAL POINT.

SIMPLE WHITE WALLS AND TEXTURED LIGHT MAPLE FLOORING CREATE A BRIGHT, WARM ATMOSPHERE. THE MAIN RETAIL AREA FEATURES HORIZONTAL FABRIC ACCENTS, FOSTERING AN ENVELOPING SPATIAL EXPERIENCE. THE LOUNGE AREA USES VERTICAL FABRIC ACCENTS, LENDING A SENSE OF CEREMONIAL ORDER THROUGH ITS GRID-LIKE ARRANGEMENT.

GREEN SACHO-BRANDED SHEER CURTAINS DRAPE AT THE JUNCTIONS BETWEEN WALLS AND UNITS, PROVIDING A SOFT TRANSITION WHILE CONCEALING THE ENDS OF THE WALLS, SUGGESTING INFINITE EXTENSION; PAIRED BRASS WALL LAMPS APPEAR SYMMETRICALLY ALONG THE CENTRAL AXIS, WITH BLACK PINE BACKGROUNDS EVOKING DEEP NIGHTFALL AND DOTTED LIGHTS—REPETITION ALONG THE DEPTH AXIS FURTHER REINFORCES THE RHYTHM OF THE UNIT ARRAY.

一生二,二生三,三生万物。

将形式的变化控制在最低限度,一个单元亦演化出一片天地。CHAOS PROGRAMME设计完成了M ESSENTIAL天津万象城全新空间。

单元

项目的起点始于基本一个单元的组合。单元的力量往往来自重复,对于单元自身而言,则要求足够清晰和简洁——一个高耸而坚实的方盒子成为单元的基本形式,黑色松木作为主体材料,木纹肌理赋予抽象的形式以可触及的微观质感。SACHO绿色面料作为局部装饰材料被引入,花卉暗纹浅浅点画于细腻的表面,随着光线变化时隐时现。

面料的应用方式与功能的置入相关:当单元作为橱窗,面料满铺背景,成为绝对华丽的映衬;当单元用作陈列,层板将内部划分为上下两部分,面料或是横向出现在上部,或是垂直贯穿上下,纵横的变化微妙地改变了上与下的相互关系。

组合

十个单元被两两对称放置于狭长的场地中,空间开始真正形成。单元的组合通过两种方式塑造空间:方位和尺度。

一个微妙的偏转角度让单元的组合产生了相向与相背之分。入口处的两个橱窗单元向内偏转,迎接访客进入内部;四个相向的单元围合成前厅,为主零售区域;第二进空间在四个相背单元的间隙中形成,作为收银以及配饰的陈列区域;第三进作为贵宾室同样由四个相向的单元围合而成,尺度相较主零售区域则更为私密;第四进空间隐藏在两个单元的背面,作为最深处的端景。

简洁的白墙以及富有肌理的浅色枫木地板,明亮而温暖。主零售区均为横向面料装饰,形成围合性的空间感受。休息区则为纵向面料装饰,带来四方阵列的仪式感。

选自SACHO品牌的绿色纱帘垂坠于空间墙体与单元的交界处,成为柔和的过渡,同时将墙体的头尾藏起,似有无尽延伸的意味;黄铜壁灯成对出现在空间的中轴两侧,黑色松木背景如深邃的夜幕降临,华灯点点,纵深方向的重复亦是对单元阵列的再次强化。
